Well, it was a lot of fun and we walked away with some great memories and a ton of laughs.  Dave and I have always remained good friends and make a point of catching up from time to time.  We just so happened to be chatting the day after the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremonies of Shaq, AI, Yao and others and as expected, our conversation headed in that direction.

I Am Toronto: DeMar DeRozan Re-Signs With Raptors | Hoops Talk Nation

The news of DeMar DeRozan re-upping with the Toronto Raptors for a five year deal valued at  $139 million was refreshing to hear particularly in an NBA off season where several recognizable stars opted to uproot themselves to ply their trade elsewhere.  DeRozan was different.

He didn’t talk to any other teams and had only one meeting with the Toronto Raptors and that’s all that was needed to get the job done.

Radio sports talk host Andy McNamara of TSN 1050 Radio joins the next episode of the Hoops Talk Nation podcast to discuss the significance of the Raptors retaining an all-star caliber player like DeRozan and what the franchise does moving forward as it continues to work towards its ultimate goal of being a championship organization.

Leo Rautins On Canada’s National Basketball Team | Hoops Talk Nation

After a heartbreaking 83-74 loss to France during a FIBA Olympic qualifier tournament, Team Canada‘s dream of competing in Rio would quickly disappear and now Canada must wait until the 2020 Tokyo Games for chance to compete on the international stage.  This would come a full 20 years after the men’s last Olympic appearance — in 2000 in Sydney.

While players like Toronto Raptors guard Cory Joseph who had 20 points and six assists did their part to lead Canada, much finger pointing for Team Canada’s disappointing finish has gone in the direction of players who didn’t participate such as last season’s NBA rookie of the year Andrew Wiggins and Nik Stauskus who both opted to skip the tournament.  While others, such as Jamal Murray, were tied up with NBA commitments.

Is it really their fault? Is it fair to put the blame on them?

Toronto Raptors analyst and former national team head coach, Leo Rautins doesn’t agree and he joins the Hoops Talk Nation podcast to discuss why and offers up his perspective on the heart of Canada’s Olympic woes.
